Once a thriving city on a major branch of the Silk Road, Sokuluk was a center for both commerce and advanced agriculture. Archaeological investigations have uncovered sophisticated infrastructure, including fired-clay water pipes and intricate irrigation networks that demonstrate the high level of engineering skill possessed by its inhabitants. Significant finds at the site include decorative glassware, metal tools, and diverse coinage, indicating active trade with distant regions. The layout of the ruins shows evidence of organized residential districts and fortified walls that protected the population and visiting caravans.
