Weather…

Fort Ternan is a world-renowned paleontological site located in the Nyanza Province of Kenya, providing crucial evidence regarding primate evolution. The site gained international prominence in 1961 when the celebrated paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey discovered remains of Kenyapithecus wickeri here. This fossil, dated to approximately 14 million years ago, was for a long time considered a potential link between early apes and the ancestors of humans. The fossils were preserved within layers of volcanic ash, which allowed for precise radiometric dating and the reconstruction of the ancient environment. In addition to primates, Fort Ternan has yielded remains of numerous other Miocene mammals, including early rhinos, giraffes, and antelopes, depicting a mosaic savanna landscape. Today, the area is gazetted as a prehistoric monument and remains an active field for scientific research into climate change and evolutionary processes in East Africa during the Miocene epoch.
