Kraton of Yogyakarta (Indonesia)

Weather…

The Kraton of Yogyakarta, officially known as Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, is a grand palace complex located in the heart of Yogyakarta on the island of Java. Established in 1755 by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I following the Treaty of Giyanti, the palace serves as the seat of the reigning Sultan of Yogyakarta and remains the center of Javanese culture. The architecture of the Kraton is a sophisticated example of traditional Javanese palace design, reflecting a deep spiritual connection between the physical and the mystical worlds. Within its walls, various courtyards, pavilions, and administrative buildings are arranged according to strict cosmological principles. Visitors can explore the Pagelaran and Siti Hinggil areas, which were historically used for formal ceremonies and audiences with the Sultan. The palace also houses a museum containing a vast collection of royal artifacts, including traditional musical instruments, heirlooms, and historical photographs. Today, the Kraton remains an active residence and a living monument, preserving centuries-old traditions such as the daily performances of Javanese dance and gamelan music.
