Barelang Bridge (Indonesia)

Weather…

The Barelang Bridge is a chain of six bridges connecting the islands of Batam, Rempang, and Galang in the Riau Islands province. The name 'Barelang' is an acronym derived from the first syllables of these three main islands. The project was initiated in the 1990s under the supervision of B. J. Habibie to develop Batam into a major industrial and trade hub. The total length of the entire bridge system is approximately 2 kilometers, with the Tengku Fisabilillah Bridge being the most famous and iconic segment due to its cable-stayed design. This main bridge has a span of 350 meters and has become the primary landmark of Batam. The bridges not only facilitate the easy movement of goods and people across the islands but also offer spectacular views of the archipelago and the busy shipping lanes of the Singapore Strait. It stands as a testament to Indonesian engineering and is a vital driver for tourism and economic growth in the southern Riau Islands.
