The Togean Islands are a true off-the-grid adventure in Central Sulawesi. This remote archipelago features peace and seclusion, as internet and mobile signals are often non-existent. The islands are of volcanic origin, surrounded by dense jungles and pristine coral reefs. A standout highlight is Lake Mariona, home to thousands of stingless jellyfish, providing a magical snorkeling experience. The underwater world is incredibly diverse, featuring everything from lively coral gardens to a B-24 bomber wreck from WWII. The Bajo sea nomads also maintain stilt villages throughout the archipelago. Accommodations are typically rustic beach bungalows with full-board meals. Getting there requires patience: a long ferry journey from either Ampana or Gorontalo is necessary. The best time to visit is from May to September, when the Gulf of Tomini is at its calmest and inter-island travel is easiest.
