Sung Wong Toi
Sung Wong Toi is a significant historical monument located in the Kowloon City District of Hong Kong. It commemorates the last two child emperors of the Song Dynasty, Zhao Shi and Zhao Bing, who sought refuge in the area during the late 13th century while fleeing Mongol invaders. The name translates to Terrace of the Song Kings, originally referring to a massive boulder atop a hill. During the Japanese occupation in World War II, the hill was leveled to expand Kai Tak Airport, but a large fragment of the rock bearing the historic inscription was preserved. Today, this 100-ton boulder is the centerpiece of a dedicated memorial park. The inscription stands as a rare and poignant link to Hong Kong’s imperial past, symbolizing loyalty and the tragic end of a dynasty. It remains a site of great cultural importance, offering a quiet space for reflection on the city's ancient history amidst the modern urban landscape.
