Old Supreme Court Building (Hong Kong SAR China)

Weather…

The Old Supreme Court Building is a magnificent example of Neoclassical architecture situated in the heart of Hong Kong's Central district. Opened in 1912, it was designed by Sir Aston Webb and Ingress Bell, the same architects responsible for the iconic facade of Buckingham Palace in London. The building is distinguished by its massive ionic granite columns and a central dome topped by a blindfolded statue of Justice, representing the impartiality of the legal system. Having miraculously survived the heavy aerial bombardments of World War II, the structure has transitioned from its original judicial function to its current status as the seat of the Legislative Council. It remains a symbolic link to the city's colonial past, standing on reclaimed land as a testament to enduring civic design. Visitors can admire the intricate stonework and the grand porticos that provide a stark architectural contrast to the surrounding forest of ultra-modern skyscrapers in the financial district.
