Originally settled by refugees from Makri in Asia Minor, it blends rich history with a modern holiday vibe. An important landmark is the Monastery of Saint Ephraim, a significant pilgrimage site. Nea Makri is also just a short drive from the historical site of Marathon. Getting there from Athens is easy, with regular bus services that take about an hour.
