Mount Geraneia (Greece)

Weather…

The Geraneia Mountains are a volcanic mountain range dominating the Isthmus of Corinth, situated between the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth. Rising to a maximum height of 1,351 meters, the massif serves as a natural barrier connecting the Peloponnese to mainland Greece. The range is named after the Greek word for crane (geranos), following a legend that Megaros, son of Zeus, escaped a great flood by following the calls of cranes to the summit. Geologically, the area is highly significant due to its proximity to the Susaki volcano and its numerous mineral springs, which facilitated the development of the famous spa town of Loutraki at its base. The flora of Geraneia is exceptionally diverse, featuring rare pine forests and over 950 species of plants, many of which are endemic. Because of its closeness to Athens, the mountain is a popular recreation spot for hikers and nature lovers who enjoy the panoramic views over the Corinthian Isthmus and the surrounding seas.
