Arkhaia Krane

Ancient Krani is a remarkable archaeological site located on the Greek island of Kefalonia, near the modern capital of Argostoli. Historically, it was one of the four powerful city-states (tetrapolis) that dominated the island in antiquity, alongside Sami, Pali, and Pronnoi. The settlement flourished from the Mycenaean period through the Hellenistic era, playing a significant role in the island's political landscape. Today, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into the distant past amidst a serene natural setting.

The most striking feature of Ancient Krani is the impressive remnants of its Cyclopean walls. These massive fortifications, built with enormous limestone blocks, stretch across the hillside and demonstrate advanced ancient engineering. Walking alongside these ruins, visitors can appreciate the strategic importance of the city, which overlooked the Koutavos Lagoon and controlled surrounding lands.
