Nortorf City Park

A classic spot for a small break in the greenery.

Located centrally in the Geest landscape, the small town of Nortorf marks the exact geographical center of Schleswig-Holstein. For decades, the town was a major industrial hub for music production: millions of vinyl records were manufactured at the former Teldec pressing plant until the late 1980s. This rich industrial heritage is preserved today at the German Record Museum, which attracts music enthusiasts from across the region with historic pressing machines, rare vinyl copies, and vintage recording equipment. The historic center clusters around the neo-Gothic St. Martin's Church, whose tall, pointed spire is visible from a great distance. The Nortorf Sculpture Park combines art and nature, displaying works by various artists in an open-air setting. Because of its central location between the Westensee and Aukrug Nature Parks, Nortorf serves as an excellent starting point for hiking and cycling tours through the gently rolling, forested, and lake-dotted inland landscape. The agriculturally driven surroundings, dotted with traditional farmhouses, provide a quiet contrast to the bustling coastal centers of the state.
