Kaltenkirchen is a dynamic city located in the Segeberg district of Schleswig-Holstein, situated within the Hamburg metropolitan region. The city's growth is largely driven by its excellent infrastructure, specifically the A7 motorway and the AKN regional railway. Kaltenkirchen is famous throughout northern Germany for the HolstenTherme, a large-scale Caribbean-themed water park and spa complex. Historically, the town is the site of the Kaltenkirchen-Springhirsch memorial, which honors the victims of a former WWII concentration subcamp located nearby. Economically, Kaltenkirchen is a significant center for retail and industry, featuring one of the largest shopping malls in the region (Dodenhof) and major food production facilities. Despite its urban development, the city remains connected to nature, bordering the expansive Segeberg Forest, which has a variety of trails and recreation areas for the local population.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
