Husum, widely known as the "Grey City by the Sea" from the poems of Theodor Storm, presents itself to visitors today in a highly colorful and lively manner. The city on the North Sea coast is the cultural center of North Frisia. The pretty inner harbor reaches deep into the town center; here you can observe the changing of the tides while enjoying fresh shrimp rolls in the waterfront cafes. A major cultural highlight is the 16th-century Husum Castle, which is surrounded by millions of blooming crocuses every spring, a natural spectacle that draws visitors from all over the country. The Theodor Storm House features direct insights into the life and work of the city's most famous son. Furthermore, Husum is the good gateway to the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage site. Guided mudflat hikes start right from the coast, allowing visitors to experience the unique maritime flora and fauna. The engaging mix of Frisian traditions, literary heritage, and raw North Sea nature makes Husum very pleasant.
