Nossen is a town in the Saxon district of Meißen, strategically located at the junction of the A4 and A14 motorways. Its history is deeply tied to the imposing Nossen Castle, which perches on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Freiberger Mulde river. Originally a knight's fortress, it was later expanded into an administrative seat for the House of Wettin. Another cultural jewel is the nearby Altzella Abbey; its romantic ruins serve as a reminder of its past as a powerful Cistercian monastery and the burial site of the Margraves of Meißen. Historically, Nossen was a hub for the textile and engineering industries, while today it hosts a diverse range of medium-sized businesses. The hilly landscape of the Meißen Highlands provides excellent opportunities for cycling and exploring nature. By preserving numerous historic buildings in its center, Nossen has maintained its small-town Saxon charm while serving as an important regional sub-center.
