Schifferstadt is located in the Rhine-Palatinate region and has a history of habitation stretching back to the Bronze Age. The town gained international fame in 1835 with the discovery of the 'Golden Hat of Schifferstadt,' one of only four such prehistoric cone-shaped hats found in Europe, currently housed in the Historical Museum of the Palatinate in Speyer. The town is a major center for intensive vegetable farming, with its radishes being a particular local specialty known across Germany. In the world of sports, Schifferstadt is famous for its wrestling tradition, spearheaded by the VfK Schifferstadt club, earning it the nickname 'Wrestling Town.' The town's architecture features characterful half-timbered houses and historic courtyards. Its position at a major railway junction makes it a vital transport hub within the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. Social life is centered around traditional events like the Radish Festival (Rettichfest), which celebrates the town's agricultural heritage and local culture.
