Rhine Promenade towards Kripp

Take a calm walk along the riverbanks heading away from the busy city center.

Positioned directly on the left bank of the Rhine, Remagen achieved worldwide fame due to the Ludendorff Bridge. In March 1945, US forces miraculously captured this railway bridge intact, significantly accelerating the Allied push across the river. Today, the surviving massive stone bridge towers house the Peace Museum, which thoroughly documents the dramatic events and serves as a powerful memorial. Perched high above the town is the Apollinariskirche, a striking 19th-century neo-Gothic masterpiece built for the Counts of Fürstenberg-Stammheim. With its twin spires and elaborate interior frescoes, it remains an important pilgrimage site and provides sweeping views over the Rhine valley. Further cultural depth is found at the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, located just north of the center, where the modern art of Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp is displayed in a historic train station connected to a spectacular contemporary wing designed by Richard Meier. Remagen also features a broad, traffic-free river promenade excellent for leisurely walks. The town acts as an excellent staging point for cycling along the Rhine cycle path.
