Sankt Augustin is a dynamic city in the Rhein-Sieg district, situated just northeast of Bonn. Its development is unique, as it was formed in 1969 from several smaller settlements and named after Saint Augustine, the patron of the local Steyler Missionaries' seminary established in 1913. Today, the city is a significant hub for science and higher education, centered around the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. It also hosts several Fraunhofer institutes, making it a key player in Germany's research landscape. Beyond academia, Sankt Augustin is nationally recognized as the headquarters for the Federal Police's elite GSG 9 unit. The city center is dominated by modern architecture and the large HUMA Shoppingwelt mall.
