Mosbach is a historic gem positioned in northern Baden-Württemberg, where the Elz river meets the Neckar. As a former Free Imperial City, it has a long and storied past dating back to a Benedictine monastery founded in the 8th century. The town is most famous for its remarkable Old Town, particularly the Marketplace, which features a dense collection of ornate half-timbered buildings. The centerpiece is the Palm’sche Haus, built in 1610, often cited as one of the most beautiful and complex timber-framed houses in all of Germany. Modern Mosbach is an animated administrative and educational center, housing a campus of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University. Its location on the scenic Castle Road (Burgenstraße) makes it a popular stop for travelers exploring the historic fortresses of the Neckar Valley. The surrounding Odenwald hills provide a dramatic backdrop and numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation.
