Situated on the highly fertile plateau south of Stuttgart lies Filderstadt, a young and dynamic city created by the merger of five deeply traditional historic communities. The region, widely known as the Filder, owes its reputation to the extremely nutrient-rich loess soils that make it one of the most productive agricultural landscapes in all of southern Germany. An absolute flagship of local farming is the Filderkraut, a globally unique, pointed variety of white cabbage that has been cultivated here for centuries and is highly prized by culinary enthusiasts for its delicate flavor. The annual Filderkraut Festival in the Bernhausen district attracts tens of thousands of visitors every autumn and represents a colorful, lively celebration of genuine Swabian tradition. Despite its strong agricultural roots, Filderstadt is remarkably modern and excellently connected, not least due to its immediate proximity to the Stuttgart Airport and the international trade fair grounds. For culture lovers, the FILharmonie cultural and congress center is a major hub, offering a first-class program of theater productions, comedy shows, and classical music concerts. Nature enthusiasts will find well-suited conditions for extensive cycling tours and relaxing scenic walks in the sprawling local recreation areas, such as the photogenic Siebenmühlental valley.
