Tiputa is a serene and traditional village located on the eastern side of the Rangiroa atoll in French Polynesia. Unlike the more developed areas of the atoll, Tiputa remains car-free and is accessible only by a short boat ride across the water from Avatoru. The village is centered around a distinctive Catholic church, serving as a landmark for both locals and sailors. The primary draw for visitors is the Tiputa Pass, a dynamic waterway where the tides push massive volumes of ocean water into the lagoon. This phenomenon creates a playground for wild dolphins, which are frequently seen leaping through the standing waves at the entrance of the pass. Below the surface, the pass is a premier diving destination, offering encounters with grey reef sharks, manta rays, and barracudas. The lack of modern traffic preserves an atmosphere of tranquility and timeless island life, making it an excellent spot for those seeking an authentic South Pacific experience.
