Pierrefeu-du-Var is picturesquely perched on a rocky outcrop at the western foothills of the Massif des Maures in the Var department. The municipality is surrounded by endless vineyards and is one of the most important production sites for the famous Côtes de Provence wines, meaning numerous local estates invite visitors in for tastings. A unique historic landmark is the Dixmude monument, which commemorates the crash of the military airship of the same name in 1923 and provides sweeping views over the plains below. Walking through the steep, cobblestone streets of the old village reveals small fountains, shaded squares, and the Sainte-Croix chapel resting at the highest point of the settlement. The woodland surrounding the town is dominated by cork oaks and pine trees, offering excellent conditions for extensive hikes away from the bustling coastal resorts. Once a week, the traditional Provençal market draws crowds with fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs, and artisanal products brought in from the hinterland.
