Situated along the banks of the Argens river in the Var department, Le Muy developed around a historic market square and serves as a vital commercial hub for the surrounding region. The architectural centerpiece is the Tour Charles Quint, a massive fortified tower where, according to historical accounts, an assassination attempt on Emperor Charles V was thwarted in 1536. Today, the town marks the geographic gateway to the red rocks of the Gorges de Pennafort, a steep river valley that sees heavy traffic from rock climbers and hiking enthusiasts. Just south of the municipal boundary rises the prominent Rocher de Roquebrune, a reddish sandstone formation that dominates the panorama of the entire Argens plain. The river itself provides excellent conditions for multi-kilometer canoe and kayak routes cutting through the forested landscape. Economically, the rural outskirts are defined by sprawling vineyards primarily dedicated to cultivating grapes for the well-known Côtes de Provence rosé wines. The traditional Provençal market is held twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, filling the central streets with vendors selling fresh agricultural produce, local cheeses, and regional crafts.
