Notre-Dame de Paris (France)

Weather…

Notre-Dame de Paris is an iconic masterpiece of French Gothic architecture located on the Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris. Construction began in 1163 under Bishop Maurice de Sully and continued for nearly two centuries until its completion around 1345. The cathedral is world-renowned for its innovative use of flying buttresses, its three massive rose windows, and its twin bell towers that dominate the Parisian skyline. Throughout history, it has served as the stage for significant events, most notably the coronation of Napoleon I in 1804. In April 2019, the cathedral suffered a catastrophic fire that destroyed its 19th-century spire and much of its medieval roof structure. Since then, a massive international restoration project has been underway, employing skilled artisans to rebuild the monument using period-accurate materials and techniques. Notre-Dame remains a powerful symbol of French national identity and cultural heritage, immortalized in Victor Hugo’s literature. Notre-Dame de Paris reopened solemnly on 7 December 2024, five years after the 2019 fire, restored with a new spire faithful to Viollet-le-Duc and welcoming millions of visitors from 2025.
