Montmorency, an elegant suburb located in the Val-d'Oise department north of Paris, is celebrated for its rich literary history and expansive green landscapes. The town is most famous for having been the home of the renowned 18th-century philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Today, visitors can explore the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Museum, housed in his former residence, the Petit Mont-Louis, where he penned some of his most significant works. Another major highlight of the town is the remarkable Collégiale Saint-Martin, a 16th-century Flamboyant Gothic collegiate church that features impressive stained glass windows and served as the burial site for the powerful Montmorency noble family. Surrounded by a dense chestnut forest, the Forêt de Montmorency, the area has countless hiking and cycling trails that are excellent for enjoying the fresh air of the Île-de-France region. Historically, the town was also an important center for cherry cultivation, a heritage that is still celebrated in the local markets. With its hilly, winding streets lined with magnificent villas, Montmorency exudes a tranquil and highly affluent atmosphere, providing a handy retreat from the fast pace of modern Parisian life.
