Alfortville is a densely populated municipality in the Val-de-Marne department, located just southeast of Paris. It occupies a unique geographical position on a strip of land between the Seine and Marne rivers, which meet at its northern tip. Originally part of Maisons-Alfort, Alfortville gained its independence in 1885. The city's history is deeply intertwined with the development of the Paris-Lyon-Marseille railway line, which accelerated its industrial growth.
