It reached its current operational scale following a comprehensive redevelopment and official opening in 1986, designed to relieve pressure on the Port of Alexandria. The facility features a deep-water basin capable of accommodating modern container ships and large bulk carriers. A standout feature is the integrated Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal, which positions the port as a pivotal hub for Egyptian energy exports. The infrastructure also encompasses specialized terminals for grain, fertilizers, and sulfur. With direct links to the national rail and road networks, Damietta serves as a critical gateway for trade with Europe and the Black Sea region. It is further recognized for its high operational efficiency in processing agricultural export products.
