Wadi El Gemal National Park is one of the most remarkable and protected natural reserves along the Red Sea coast. Translating to the 'Valley of the Camels', this vast expanse covers both terrestrial and marine environments, offering an unparalleled eco-tourism experience. Visitors are drawn to its contrasting landscapes, where rugged mountains and ancient desert wadis meet pristine coral reefs and seagrass beds that provide sanctuary to the endangered dugong and green sea turtles. The park is a haven for nature lovers and adventurers. You can embark on a desert safari to encounter wild Dorcas gazelles, ibexes, and the eponymous roaming camels, or explore the ancient emerald mines of Mons Smaragdus. The coastal area has magnificent beaches, such as Hankorab and Sharm El Luli, often ranked among the most beautiful in the Middle East. Culinary experiences here revolve around traditional Bedouin meals cooked underground, offering a genuine taste of desert life. Getting to Wadi El Gemal is relatively easy; it is situated just about 45 kilometers south of Marsa Alam. A rented 4x4 or a guided tour is highly recommended to fully explore the rugged terrain safely. The good time to explore the park is during the cooler months from October to April, making hiking, wildlife spotting, and snorkeling incredibly pleasant and comfortable without the fierce summer heat.
