Voergaard Castle (Denmark)

Weather…

Voergaard Castle is a Renaissance water castle in northern Jutland, built between 1578 and 1590 for Ingeborg Skeel, one of Denmark's wealthiest women. The complex features two long wings with corner towers, surrounded by broad moats. Its interiors house a notable collection of 16th- to 19th-century furniture and paintings, including works by Rembrandt and Rubens. The castle chapel contains a rare Gothic winged altarpiece. The castle is renowned for its ghost legends, particularly the White Lady. After Skeel's death in 1604, the estate changed hands multiple times until it was acquired by the Danish state in 1947. Today it operates as a museum and event venue. The architecture marks the transition from medieval fortress to representative palace.
