Battle of Santa Clara (Cuba)

Weather…

The Battle of Santa Clara, fought in late December 1958, was the decisive military engagement of the Cuban Revolution. Led by Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, rebel forces successfully captured this strategically vital city located in the heart of the island. A pivotal moment of the battle was the ambush of an armored train (Tren Blindado) carrying reinforcements and heavy weaponry for dictator Fulgencio Batista's forces. Using a bulldozer to derail the tracks, the revolutionaries forced the surrender of the government troops on board. This victory effectively split the country in two, severing communications between Havana and the eastern provinces and demoralizing the regime. Just hours after the city fell, Batista fled Cuba in the early morning of January 1, 1959. Today, Santa Clara is a major historical site, home to the Che Guevara Mausoleum and the preserved remains of the armored train, marking the end of the armed struggle.
