Loma de la Cruz is a distinctive geographical and cultural landmark located in the northern part of the city of Holguín. The hill rises 261 meters above sea level and is famous for the large wooden cross at its summit, placed there in 1790 by a Franciscan friar. To reach the top, visitors must climb a monumental staircase with 458 steps, built in the early 20th century. From the summit, an unparalleled panoramic view of the entire city of Holguín, often called the 'City of Parks,' unfolds. The site holds deep religious significance and is the destination for the annual 'Romerías de Mayo' procession, which blends tradition and modernity. Geologically, the hill consists primarily of limestone formations typical of northern Cuba. In addition to the cross, the summit features a restaurant and an observation tower that was part of a former colonial defense system. Today, Loma de la Cruz is not only a religious site but also a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike.
