Che Guevara Mausoleum (Cuba)

Weather…

The Che Guevara Mausoleum in Santa Clara is Cuba's most significant memorial site, dedicated to the life and legacy of the revolutionary leader Ernesto 'Che' Guevara. The complex was inaugurated in 1988 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Clara, a pivotal victory for the Cuban Revolution led by Guevara himself. The site features a massive parade square, a 6.7-meter-tall bronze statue of Che holding a rifle, and a museum containing personal artifacts and historical photographs. Below the statue lies the solemn mausoleum, where since 1997, the remains of Guevara and 29 of his fellow combatants killed in Bolivia have been entombed. The memorial's walls are decorated with stone reliefs depicting scenes from Guevara's military career and quotes from his farewell letter to Fidel Castro. An eternal flame burns inside the crypt, lit by Fidel Castro during the repatriation ceremony. Thousands of people visit annually to pay their respects to the iconic commander at this site of deep national pride.
