Primary Cathedral of Colombia (Colombia)

Weather…

The Primary Cathedral of Colombia, officially the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, is located on Bolívar Square in the historic center of Bogotá. The current building is the fourth church constructed on this site and was built between 1807 and 1823 following the designs of Capuchin monk and architect Domingo de Petrés in the Neoclassical style. The cathedral serves as the seat of the Archbishop of Bogotá and is considered one of the most significant religious structures in the country. Inside, it houses the remains of Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, the founder of the city of Bogotá. The facade is characterized by its symmetrical towers and the use of local sandstone, giving the building a monumental presence. As a National Monument of Colombia, it plays a central role in both state and religious ceremonies.
