Doba Oil Field (Chad)

Weather…

The Doba Oil Field in southern Chad is the cornerstone of the nation's petroleum industry and has fundamentally reshaped the country's economy since production began. Development started in the late 1990s by an international consortium led by ExxonMobil, with commercial production officially launching in 2003. The project involves hundreds of wells and is connected to the Atlantic coast at the Cameroonian port of Kribi via a 1,070-kilometer pipeline. Geologically located in the Doba Basin, the field contains heavy, low-sulfur crude oil varieties that are traded globally. The revenues from the project were originally subject to a specific petroleum revenue management law supported by the World Bank to ensure funds were directed toward poverty reduction. Today, despite natural declines in production rates, the field remains a critical pillar for the national budget and the primary driver of industrial development in the Logone Oriental region.
