Tin-Akoff Reserve (Burkina Faso)

Weather…

The Tin-Akoff Wildlife Reserve is located in the far north of Burkina Faso, in the Oudalan province within the Sahel zone. Established in 1980, this protected area covers approximately 34,000 hectares along the seasonal Béli River. The landscape is characterized by arid dune formations and sparse vegetation consisting of acacias and various grasses adapted to extreme climatic conditions. A central feature of the reserve is the Mare de Tin-Akoff, a critical wetland that holds water during the short rainy season and attracts a wide variety of migratory birds. The area is home to endangered species such as gazelles and serves as a refuge for wildlife in a region heavily impacted by desertification. Management of the reserve is complex due to its remote location and the security situation in the Sahel region. However, it plays an indispensable role in preserving the biodiversity of the dry savannah and as a vital watering hole for animals during the dry season.
