Kulata na Kurtpashovtsi

The Kurtpashov Tower, located in the heart of Vratsa, Bulgaria, is a remarkable example of fortified medieval architecture adapted for residential use during the Ottoman period. Built in the 17th century by a wealthy local family, it served both as a secure home and a defensive structure. Its robust stone walls and distinct architectural features provide a unique glimpse into the turbulent history of the region and the lifestyle of the local elite.

Standing at an impressive height, the tower features a square plan and consists of several floors, including a fortified ground level without windows, designed primarily for defense and storage. The upper floors were used for living quarters and are equipped with narrow loopholes that allowed the defenders to protect the property from attacks while observing the surrounding area.

Today, the Kurtpashov Tower is one of the few surviving structures of its kind in Bulgaria and has become a prominent cultural monument in Vratsa. Visitors can admire its imposing stone facade and learn about the local history. Situated near the central square, it often serves as a focal point for tourists exploring the town's historical landmarks, alongside the nearby Meshchii Tower.
