Antonina
Antonina is located on the shores of the Paranaguá Bay in Paraná state and is home to a history spanning over 200 years. Officially elevated to the status of a town in 1797, it was originally settled by gold seekers and fishermen in the mid-17th century. During the 19th century, Antonina experienced a period of significant economic growth as a premier port for the export of yerba mate, which was vital to the regional economy. This prosperity is reflected in the grand architecture of its historic district, characterized by elegant mansions and narrow cobblestone streets. Set at the foot of the Serra do Mar mountain range, the city gives a memorable landscape that includes the nearby Pico Paraná, the highest peak in southern Brazil. Antonina is also famous for its traditional carnival, considered one of the most authentic and lively folk celebrations in the region. While maintaining its port functions, the town has become a hub for cultural tourism and local gastronomy, such as the famous Barreado. Its unique combination of maritime heritage and lush Atlantic Forest surroundings makes it a standout destination on the Paraná coast.
