Ramana Castle (Azerbaijan)

Weather…

Ramana Castle is a 14th-century fortress located in the village of Ramana on the Absheron Peninsula near Baku. It was built during the reign of the Shirvanshahs and served as a strategic part of the regional defense system. The distinctive quadrangular tower reaches a height of approximately 15 meters and is made of local limestone, known for its durability. Historical sources suggest that the castle was connected via underground passages to other fortifications in the area to allow troop movements in case of a siege. Unlike many other medieval structures, Ramana remained relatively well-preserved over the centuries and was restored in the 20th century. It provided protection against enemy raids from the Caspian Sea and also served as an observation post. The architecture is an excellent example of the military construction arts of the Absheron school.
