The Po Nagar Cham Towers in Nha Trang are an outstanding example of the religious architecture and spiritual traditions of the Cham civilization. Built between the 7th and 12th centuries, the complex is dedicated to the goddess Yan Po Nagar, who is revered as the Mother of the Country and protector of agriculture. Located on Cu Lao Hill, the site originally consisted of up to ten towers, four of which remain well-preserved today. The distinctive red brick structures feature stepped roofs and detailed sculptures reflecting strong Hindu influences. Particularly impressive is the 23-meter-high main tower, which houses a statue of the goddess carved from black stone. Despite the decline of the Champa Kingdom, Po Nagar remains a bustling place of worship where ceremonies are still held by both Cham and Vietnamese devotees. The annual Po Nagar Festival, held in the third lunar month, draws thousands of pilgrims, highlighting the cultural continuity of this historic site.

Visiting
Visitors can explore the well-preserved ancient temple complex and admire its intricate brickwork and spiritual atmosphere. Modest clothing is required when entering the active shrines dedicated to the goddess Yan Po Nagar.

The site is generally open daily from early morning until late afternoon, catering to both tourists and local worshippers. Arriving early in the morning is highly recommended to beat the crowds and the midday heat.

Photography of the striking architecture and panoramic views over the Cai River is warmly encouraged. However, please be respectful when taking photos near worshippers and inside the more sacred, enclosed shrine areas.
Time needed
Most visitors spend about an hour to an hour and a half walking through the grounds and appreciating the historical details. Guided tours or taking time to observe traditional dance performances may extend your stay.

The towers are situated close to the city center of Nha Trang, making it easy to combine with a trip to the nearby Dam Market. You can also relax at the nearby mud baths or head to the city's main beaches afterwards.
Getting there
The complex is located on a hill near the Cai River bridge and is easily accessible by taxi, motorbike, or bicycle from anywhere in Nha Trang. There is a designated parking area at the base of the hill for a small fee.
Insider tip
To fully enter the inner sanctuaries, you are often provided with free grey robes to cover up if your attire is considered too revealing. Look out for the traditional Cham dance performances that frequently occur in the courtyard.
