Zoológico de Las Delicias
The Zoológico de Las Delicias is a historic zoological park located in the city of Maracay, Aragua state, Venezuela. It was originally established in the 1910s as a private animal collection for the president at the time, Juan Vicente Gómez, making it the oldest zoo in the country. It was later opened to the general public and became one of the region's most important recreational centers, attracting both locals and tourists alike.
The park is nestled within a lush, wooded environment, located very close to the Henri Pittier National Park. The expansive grounds offer visitors the opportunity to observe a variety of native and exotic animal species. The facility includes not only animal enclosures but also wide green spaces that invite relaxing walks. Following extensive renovations in recent years, the zoo presents itself in a modernized state with a focus on conservation.
A visit offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich biodiversity of South America. In addition to animal observation, visitors can admire the architecture of the park's oldest structures. The shaded pathways make it an ideal destination for families.
