Water temperature…
Brookings lies at the southernmost tip of the Oregon Coast, situated at the mouth of the Chetco River. Known as the 'Banana Belt' of Oregon, it enjoys frequent sunshine and temperatures significantly warmer than the rest of the coastline. The town serves as the gateway to the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor, a 12-mile stretch of dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and iconic sea arches that draw visitors from around the globe for its wide-open photography and hiking opportunities. The region's beaches are legendary for their rugged Pacific Northwest beauty. Harris Beach State Park features massive sea stacks and tide pools teeming with life, while Lone Ranch Beach has a more accessible shore with gentle slopes. For the adventurous, Secret Beach provides a secluded escape reached via a steep trail, revealing pristine sands at low tide. Whaleshead Beach is named after a distinctive rock formation that spouts water like a whale when waves crash against it, creating a natural spectacle unique to this area. In addition to its coastal wonders, Brookings provides the beautiful Azalea Park and a thriving community of local artists. The Brookings-Harbor port is one of the busiest sport-fishing hubs on the coast, ensuring that local restaurants serve the freshest seafood available. Located on the scenic Highway 101, it is an excellent base for exploring both the Oregon dunes to the north and the majestic California Redwoods just a few miles to the south.
