Ripponden, a scenic village in the Ryburn Valley, West Yorkshire, is positioned within the dramatic landscape of the Pennines. This village is a haven for walkers and anyone wishing to experience the rugged beauty of rural Yorkshire. The centrepiece of the locality is the historic arched bridge, known as 'Waterloo Bridge', built in 1815, which crosses the River Ryburn. Right beside it is The Old Bridge Inn, a 14th-century hostelry that exudes a cosy atmosphere with its crackling fires and long history. Ripponden's character is defined by its stone-built cottages and narrow lanes that climb the steep valley sides. The surrounding moorland has countless footpaths, including sections of the Calderdale Way. Despite its quiet and secluded feel, the village is animated, with a selection of pubs and small shops. Ripponden is the excellent place to escape the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in a world of historic charm, traditional architecture, and remarkable nature, typical of the South Pennines.
