Pinner is an affluent district within the London Borough of Harrow, located in the northwest of the British capital. Originally a medieval village, Pinner has remarkably preserved its historic charm despite being integrated into the London urban sprawl. Its High Street is regarded as one of the best-preserved in Greater London, lined with buildings dating from the 14th to the 17th centuries, including many splendid timber-framed houses. Geographically, Pinner lies in the valley of the River Pinn, a small stream from which it derives its name. The architectural landscape is dominated by the 14th-century St John the Baptist Church, whose prominent tower is a local landmark. In the early 20th century, Pinner grew as an exclusive residential suburb following the arrival of the Metropolitan Line, becoming part of the 'Metroland' development. Culturally, the area is famously linked to Elton John, who was born here as Reginald Dwight. Another unique feature is the Pinner Fair, a fair first granted by royal charter by Edward III in 1336, which continues to be held annually every May. Today, Pinner is known for its high-achieving schools, extensive green spaces like Pinner Memorial Park, and a strong sense of local community.
