Leigh is a significant town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan within the Greater Manchester region. Historically, the town was a pulsating center of the industrial revolution, known primarily for its thriving textile industry and coal mining, which shaped the townscape and social structure for decades. After the decline of these industries, Leigh has undergone an extensive transformation process. Today, the town presents itself as a lively place that has been renewed through the conversion of former industrial areas into residential areas and the establishment of new economic branches and sports facilities such as the Leigh Sports Village. The city's cultural heritage is honored by museums and historical architecture. Despite the modernization, the industrial character is still palpable in the urban structure. Leigh features its residents a good quality of life, a strong local identity, and, through the strategic location within Greater Manchester, excellent connections to the neighboring urban centers.
