Heywood, a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale in Greater Manchester, has its identity deeply rooted in the industrial revolution. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Heywood developed into a significant centre of the textile industry, particularly in cotton processing. The numerous factories shaped the architectural and social face of the town. Today, Heywood has partly left this industrial focus behind and is transforming into a modern residential and service location. Despite the change, the heritage of the past remains palpable through the well-preserved industrial architecture. The town benefits from its location between the urban centres of Manchester and Rochdale, making it a strategically important location. With a solid local economy and an active community, Heywood looks to a future that connects urban development and historical awareness.
