Eden Project (United Kingdom)

Weather…

The Eden Project in Cornwall is a globally unique botanical garden established in a reclaimed china clay pit near St Blazey. Since its full opening in 2001, it has featured two massive geodesic biomes constructed from hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal ETFE plastic foil cushions. The Rainforest Biome is the largest indoor rainforest in the world, housing thousands of exotic plant species, including rubber trees and giant bamboos. The Mediterranean Biome simulates the drier climates of the Mediterranean, South Africa, and California, showcasing olive groves and citrus fruits. The project maintains a strong ecological agenda, functioning as an educational centre for sustainability and the symbiotic relationship between humans and the natural world. Outside the biomes, the expansive outdoor gardens display the flora of temperate regions and native UK species. The Eden Project also conducts vital scientific research on climate change and biodiversity conservation. The entire facility is powered by renewable energy and utilizes rainwater harvesting for irrigation. It stands as a powerful symbol of how a degraded industrial landscape can be transformed into a thriving ecological paradise.
