Coalville owes its name and growth to the coal industry of the 19th century. Located in the Leicestershire Coalfields, the town developed rapidly as railway connections allowed the transport of mined coal to Birmingham and London. With the decline of mining activities in the late 20th century, Coalville underwent a phase of economic restructuring. Today, the town is an important local center with a diversified service and manufacturing base. Geographically, the town benefits from its location near the National Forest, a large-scale reforestation project that underscores the rural character of the region and features new recreational opportunities. Culturally, Coalville has maintained a strong identity through preserved industrial architecture and local museums that commemorate the harsh working conditions of the miners.
