Chandler's Ford is located within the Borough of Eastleigh in Hampshire and evolved during the 20th century from a small rural settlement into a major residential town. The name is believed to derive from a family named 'Chandler' who once controlled a ford across Monks Brook. Massive expansion began in the late 1960s with the construction of large housing estates such as Hiltingbury. Geographically, the area is characterized by its wooded fringes and proximity to the Itchen Valley Country Park. The architecture is predominantly modern, with post war housing dominating the townscape. Economically, Chandler's Ford is a key hub for IT and service sector companies, settled in business parks like the Chandlers Ford Industrial Estate. The town has excellent schools, making it particularly attractive to young families. With links to the M3 motorway and the railway line to Southampton, the locality is a good base for commuters. Culturally, the Thornden Hall Arts Centre features a diverse program of theater and concerts. Despite its growth, Chandler's Ford has maintained a community spirit fostered by local clubs and parks.
