Gyllyngvase Beach

Gyllyngvase Beach

Blue FlagAccessible

Gyllyngvase Beach, affectionately known locally simply as "Gylly," is by far the most popular and celebrated beach in the coastal town of Falmouth, Cornwall. A wide, sweeping crescent of pale, fine sand gently shelves into the clear, usually calm waters of Falmouth Bay. With its stunning, uninterrupted views over to the Lizard Peninsula and the historic Pendennis Castle standing proudly on the nearby headland, it offers a quintessentially beautiful Cornish coastal experience. The beach is wonderfully sheltered from the prevailing winds, making it an absolute haven for swimmers, paddleboarders, and families looking for a relaxing, carefree day by the sea.

Unlike some of Cornwall's wilder, more rugged, and isolated coves, Gyllyngvase is highly developed and exceptionally well-maintained by local authorities. The atmosphere is consistently vibrant, bustling, and welcoming, with locals and tourists alike flocking to these shores year-round. Proudly awarded the prestigious Blue Flag status, the beach boasts excellent, closely monitored water quality and top-tier environmental and safety management.

The beautifully landscaped Queen Mary Gardens sit directly behind the beach, offering a tranquil sub-tropical retreat. Opened in 1910, this local gem features exotic plants, giant gunnera, and vibrant, colorful flower beds just steps away from the soft sand. Whether you want to hire equipment and try out water sports, enjoy a long scenic seaside stroll, or simply bask in the Cornish sunshine, Gyllyngvase provides an idyllic and easily accessible coastal destination.
