Crosby Beach
Crosby Beach, located on the Merseyside coastline just north of Liverpool, is a unique coastal destination unlike any other in the UK. Instead of a traditional bathing spot, this expansive stretch of sand is world-renowned as the permanent home to Antony Gormley's art installation, 'Another Place'. The beach is dotted with 100 life-size, cast-iron figures modelled on the artist's own body, staring out towards the horizon across the Irish Sea. As the tides ebb and flow, the statues are submerged and revealed, creating a dynamic landscape that evokes a sense of quiet contemplation. Beyond the artwork, the beach offers sweeping panoramic views of the Wirral Peninsula and the hills of North Wales. The wide sands are backed by a long promenade, making it a popular spot for bracing walks, dog walking, and photography. The sunsets here are spectacular, casting dramatic silhouettes of the iron men against the sky. Due to strong currents, shifting sands, and deep soft mud, swimming is strictly prohibited. However, the sheer atmosphere, the thought-provoking art, and the raw beauty of the coastline make Crosby Beach an unforgettable experience and a must-visit destination in the North West of England.
