Al Fahidi Fort

Al Fahidi Fort, located in the heart of historic Bur Dubai, is a remarkable testament to the city's rich past before the era of oil wealth. Constructed in the late 18th century, likely around 1787, primarily from sea coral and shell rubble held together with lime, it is officially recognized as the oldest existing building in Dubai. Originally built to defend the strategically important Dubai Creek waterway and the city against landward attacks, the fortress reflects the harsh reality of the region at that time.

Throughout its long history, the fort has served various purposes, functioning as the ruler's residence, a weapons arsenal, and even a prison.
